COAT OF ARMS
This coat of arms can be found on keyrings, cups, spoons and bits of wood. I don't know if it has any real significance, however it looks very flash.
One family were Co-arbs of Tullylease and later Lords of Muskerry-Noonan.
The only other spelling in common useage is NUNAN. Many early families on this site moved back and forth between spelling variations, probably due to literacy problems. By the 20th century, most families seem to have settled on their preferred spelling. I will be including both surnames here.
From the information I have at the moment, the first Noonan in Australia was a convict - Patrick. He was tried at Cork in April 1808 and sentenced to 7 years. Patrick arrived in Australia on the ship 'Boyd' on the 14th of August, 1809. The General Muster of 1811 lists him as living in Hobart Town.
