Philip arrived in Australia in 1849

Philip ran a public house close to where the Wallan Bendigo railway line crossed the Hume Highway. He was elected to the first Kilmore Council of 7 members and voted chairman at the first meeting . He was for some time editor of a Kilmore newspaper and taught Bridget to read and write after their marriage as she had not attended school.

Notes from Geoff Corboy, 11 May 1999 :

"The three Philip Corboys (I understand their middle names were all Joseph) mentioned in your family tree have been followed by two more. My grand father Philip Joseph Corboy (1888 - 1/1/70) was th e son of Philip Corboy (1854 - 1921). My
father is also Philip Joseph Corboy (1931 - ). Both my father and grandfather's families consisted of over ten children. There were two Philip's in Dad's family, my father having a brother who pre -deceased him as a child. The family settled
on a property near Mulwala (on the NSW side of the Murray not far from Burramine) in the latter part of the 1800's and named it "Bylands" after the town near Kilmore. The property remained in the fam ily until the early 1980's when my father
retired into town. The tradition of having a Philip Joseph stopped with our family. I am the closest with Philip as my second name."
