'A midnight revel was held near the Chinese village at Raglan-road, Beaufort, on Monday last. The saturnalia culminated in Mrs. Carmichael, a blacksmith's widow, striking Ellen McGinn, a soldier's w
idow, a heavy blow on the face with the butt end of a bottle, from which she never recovered. She expired at the cottage of Mrs. Dawson (alias Ginger), a carter's widow, at Slaughteryard Gully, at m
idnight on Tuesday. At 2.15 a.m. the police wore informed of these facts, and at once arrested Anne Carmichael (nee Cotton), and lodged her in the lock-up at Beaufort.'
