This family is being researched by Verna Parker, NZ
"Mythology is thus:
Mary Ann Noonan came from County Clare in Ireland and ran away from home at a young age. She married William Parker, also from Ireland; at some stage he had changed his name from Devine to Parker, w
hether before or after joining the British military is unknown. No regimental information is known. Son, Thomas Parker, was born at Queens Barracks, Isle of Wight about 1858, calculated from Thomas
' death certificate, and his father being recorded as a soldier. They went to India with the military, William met his death there (researched many deaths of that name and none matched). Widow an
d child, Thomas, came on the ship Himalaya to NZ. So far I have not been able to locate the death certificate of Mary Ann Parker (nee Noonan) as it was such a common name, no idea when she died, apa
rt from the fact that it would have been in Auckland. I found out that the Himalaya was a military ship at that time having made a sailing from Ceylon to Auckland with military to fight in the Maor
i War on 14 November 1863. Sadly, NZ Archives advised there is no passenger list apart from those of high rank."
